Midway CDJR Service Deparment Oil Change

Kearney drivers understand the necessity of keeping their vehicles in top condition, which means ensuring it gets an oil change at regular intervals. Whether you choose to do the change the oil yourself or take it to the local dealership for a service appointment, the process is relatively straightforward. Oil helps the engine, belts, and bolts move without friction, so it is essential to maintain the oil levels. Learn more about how to perform an oil change below.

Drain the Old Oil

Before you add new oil to your vehicle, you must first remove the old oil. This is done by locating the drain plug, which is typically a large nut located underneath the oil pan at the base of the engine. You may need to lift your car slightly to access the nut. Place a container underneath the nut to catch the old oil, and then use a glove or towel to unscrew the nut and quickly move your hand out of the way. The old oil will begin to drain into your container.

Change the Filter

Once the old oil is completely drained from your engine, you’ll need to remove the oil filter. If you can’t do this by hand, you’ll need to use a wrench. Be sure your face is not directly underneath the filter when you’re trying to remove it, as it will still contain oil. Place the old filter in the container with the old oil to avoid it from dripping into unwanted places. After the old filter is removed, install a new one and lubricate the gasket with a bit of oil, either old or new. Secure the area with the nut after the filter has been placed.

Add New Oil

Once you’re finished, you’ll need to dispose of the old oil and filter. This can be done at most automotive shops, or at a nearby recycling center.

Finally, start the engine and let it run for a few minutes. This will help circulate the new oil and help it settle.

Finish off the oil change process by pouring the correct amount of new oil into your engine using a funnel, as indicated in your CDJR vehicle manual. Make sure to check underneath the vehicle for any signs of leaking. Once finished, dispose of the old oil and filter at an automotive shop or recycling center. Finally, start the engine and let it run for a few minutes to help circulate the new oil and allow it to settle.
